Technology Integration Plan Week 4

Professional development for this type of integration plan is going to require a background in artistic studies. An instructor highly skilled in English and Literature would not have the prerequisite education and training to instruct students in the artistic skills the program will require. To teach the ceramics portion of the coursework will require experience in the field and the knowledge of what is necessary in order to safely take earthen clay then manipulate, fire, glaze or paint it. They will have to at least be able to access the required knowledge of what heat the clay has to be fired at and the differentiation between glazes and which would be safe to use for use to hold consumables, and which will not and the differences in the temperatures between a cone 6 glaze and a cone 4.The low tech portions of drawing, whether it be a still life or life drawing, requires the skills to measure whether they are assisted by ruler or the eye, which then can be translated into digit...

Alms for the Arts - Week 5

Central Public School currently provides WiFi access to students in their parking lot from 8 am until 9 pm for students to use with their own personal devices. With the current state of some programs continuing or being discontinued that may change. Currently we do no know how education is going to be affected by current and future policies coming from the federal government. Should it discontinue it will have a drastic effect on our student body because they may lose one of the few access points to free internet and depending on socioeconomic state of their household their options will become more limited for access. It isn’t an issue at present but it may become one in the future. For artistic instruction much of the technology needed for introductory and intermediate instruction still remains rather analog. Art instruction is more of an umbrella term for multiple disciplines of artistic instruction. Technologies can be integrated into some disciplines but often times at more advance...

Developing My Technology Integration Plan

Many studies show benefits of using technology with authentic learning approaches. Students gain more meaningful relationships with the content by practicing with authentic problems. It gives them real world experience with the problems in a controlled environment so when the question comes up whether they will use this in real life, they just did. Focusing on the “systems in our bodies” students used the internet to examine different perspectives and achieved academic permanency in their knowledge retention (Designer 2.5 ISTE). “Empowering students using technology leads to knowledge gains beyond traditional approaches” (Crompton, 2023 p.207). This practice gives the students more agency in their learning and engagement t with the technology and curriculum. The students who were part of the empowered technology program outperformed the traditional group and led to learning gains as technology was used to empower students (Crompton, 2023). One challenge that technological integr...

Developing A Measured Approach to Integrating Technology Into Our Schools

The integration and incorporation of technology into the lives of our students is a subject that can be met with either enthusiasm or apprehension. With the state of educational quality and adequate funding educators must navigate these days rather than just throwing technology at every field of study in the educational development of our students, perhaps we could take a more surgical approach. I state this as an art educator. The beneficiaries of technology integration of the education system is beneficial community wide. The students benefit by being prepared to enter life after or for further education with comprehension and literacy skills that will help them with their future employment. Employability benefits the students and their parents developing self sufficient individuals prepared for the 21 Century employment opportunities. Those students are then going to become productive members of the community in whatever roles they serve, here or elsewhere. This can also benefit t...

Week 1 Blog

When the integration of technology comes up there is a “why” factor. This is a very important criteria to justify what matters most. Technologies need to be chosen that will best accomplish what we are trying to achieve, the mission whatever that may be in the moment. The interviewee focused on emotional intelligence at Orange County Department of Education. It is the element that “gets at what makes people tick” (bstachowiak & McClay, 2021). Dr. Hittenberger is also very people focused, that THEY be at the center. That his mission is at the center. People, the mission, the desired goal is the why of everything to them. They also approach technological applications with a mindfulness about how the technology is being used.   Dr. Hittenberger extols ISTE 2.3 Citizen standards in their application as well as use of technology in professional and personal terms. Creating positive experiences (2.3a) and managing and protecting data (2.3d, ISTE, 2024). Mentoring students ...
